A new type of "New Media" in my opinion would be a food truck. I know food trucks exist already but the one I have in mind is quite different. There should be a "Foodie" app that details the food and the location of the food truck during time of service. I would want this food truck service to be only for dinner or at night time. The service will operate from 8 PM to midnight. This will only work through the app and there will be multiple trucks with different cuisines. The neighbors vote on what they want to eat near their location on what day. The one with the most vote will show up at that day and park near that neighborhood. The people of that location won't have to order out to eat and can simply order on the app and have their food delivered instantaneously. If they are super close to the food truck, they can also just pick up the food. There will be new cuisine choices weekly and this service is only limited to weekends when people tend to be home. Wiki so Far

Although I haven't started contributing to the Baruch New Media wiki page, I have lots of ideas in mind as to what I want to add on. I think our wiki page is very exciting and has loads of useful information. I am very interested in topics like Business, Fashion, Healthcare, Marketing, Mass Media, Real Estate and Social Media. I am not sure if I will contribute to all of these yet, but I have done some research on them. I have a lot of knowledge on some of these topics such as Marketing from Marketing class and from my internship that is also about Marketing to various clients. Since I also manage the social media part for my internship, I can definitely add what I have learned to this Social Media page as well. For Healthcare, I will contribute about the rise of Home Care in our times because of the large amount of people retiring all at the same time and how that affects the Healthcare system and the job industry. I will also contribute to the real estate page because I am person

P2P

File sharing can be private or public sharing of data or space in a network with various levels of access. Some examples of file sharing are Airdrop, google drive, dropbox, and Apple iCloud. Remember back in the days using LimeWire to download songs that you had to otherwise pay for? That is also file sharing! P2P or Peer to Peer file sharing is sharing digital media between two or more people using P2P networking technology. P2P file sharing allows users access to media files such as movies, games, music, and books. You don’t need fancy or expensive software programs for P2P file sharing and it is very convenient and fast. In the article “Peers Find Less Pressure Borrowing From Each Other” by Wendy Kaufman, one example of P2P is being discussed. Google teamed up and invested $125 million with Lending Club, which “gets borrowers and lenders together outside the conventional banking system.” People who needed a loan but didn’t want to pay high interest rates turned to Lending Club,

Privacy

The issues of privacy and confidentiality are related to new media. In these tech savvy times, users should be aware that whatever they put out on the internet can be used against them. The issue of privacy is also a problem because many sites steal information and sell it to others without permission. Thus, the user has to be very careful with new media. According to "Attack Ad Marks New Era For Millennials Running for Office" by Jessica Taylor, the generation of millennials are very much affected by this issue of privacy. Democrat Jon Ossoff, a very young candidate, was running in a Georgia special election. His opponent used an ad that showed some unflattering college footage found on Youtube from Ossoff's college days, which went against his conservative state. In the past years, oppositions would have to dig through to find any flaws of their rivals to use against them. Now, they don't have to go much farther than googling the opponent's name or

Advice

New media should be used by all levels of education, especially colleges and universities. I think Baruch College has already started using new media to reach out to more students and potential candidates. To make it even better, I think each clubs should be very active on social media as well, be it Facebook or Instagram. Each clubs should have its link from the Baruch page so they can be easily found. I think I had a hard time finding out more about clubs when I first started college because I don't really pay attention to the flyers put around the school. I also appreciate the "Baruch Class of 20__" groups and I think advisors should start using it as well. We should be able to chat online with advisors when we need a question answered but don't have the time to make an appointment or wait. It would be nice if advisors met the students online as a must to make sure we are in the right track with our major and/or minor.  I also think the tutoring center can b

Creativity and New Media

Image
Living in the era of New Media is very interesting because you can be as creative as you want and still get the message across. We use New Media to connect or to learn or for even work/internship. This online class in itself is an example of New Media because instead of having the traditional classroom lecture, we are able to do it from home or anywhere else. This makes this class very flexible and I think it fosters creativity by letting us think outside the box. Another example of New Media and how it fosters creativity personally is social media and hashtags. I am currently interning at Emma Worldwide (marketing agency). I have been working on certain projects for many clients; one in particular would be China Southern Airlines. In order to create the presentations and engage and communicate with the client, I had the freedom to use hashtags. Before this internship, I had no idea hashtags can be used as a marketing tool and are an easy technique for getting popularity. Hashtags

Creativity

The Internet is improving lives every day. You can start a business or connect with people who can make your dream come true. Advanced technologies and the era of digitization has taken over. Modern tools that we can easily find/use helps fosters creativity within all of us. Mashup in music is a creative work, usually in a form of a song, created by fusing two or more pre recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another. To the extent that such works are transformed of original content.“1+1+1=1 The New Math of Mashups” is an article written by Sasha Frere-Jones where she discusses different artists using mashups to create some interesting pieces. In her view, “Mashups find new uses for current digital technology, a new iteration of the cause-and-effect relationship behind almost every change in pop-music aesthetics: the gear changes, and then the music does.” To her, artists who use mashups to create pieces use it to
