Creativity and New Media

Image
Living in the era of New Media is very interesting because you can be as creative as you want and still get the message across. We use New Media to connect or to learn or for even work/internship. This online class in itself is an example of New Media because instead of having the traditional classroom lecture, we are able to do it from home or anywhere else. This makes this class very flexible and I think it fosters creativity by letting us think outside the box. Another example of New Media and how it fosters creativity personally is social media and hashtags. I am currently interning at Emma Worldwide (marketing agency). I have been working on certain projects for many clients; one in particular would be China Southern Airlines. In order to create the presentations and engage and communicate with the client, I had the freedom to use hashtags. Before this internship, I had no idea hashtags can be used as a marketing tool and are an easy technique for getting popularity. Hashtags

Creativity

The Internet is improving lives every day. You can start a business or connect with people who can make your dream come true. Advanced technologies and the era of digitization has taken over. Modern tools that we can easily find/use helps fosters creativity within all of us. Mashup in music is a creative work, usually in a form of a song, created by fusing two or more pre recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another. To the extent that such works are transformed of original content.“1+1+1=1 The New Math of Mashups” is an article written by Sasha Frere-Jones where she discusses different artists using mashups to create some interesting pieces. In her view, “Mashups find new uses for current digital technology, a new iteration of the cause-and-effect relationship behind almost every change in pop-music aesthetics: the gear changes, and then the music does.” To her, artists who use mashups to create pieces use it to

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Today the Virtual reality (VR) technology is applied to fields of medicine, engineering, education, design, training, and entertainment. VR is a computer interfaces which tries to mimic real world beyond the flat monitor to give an immersive 3D visual experiences. The third dimension helps bring depth to objects (bring it to life unlike 2D). In the NY Times, the article, "No Budget, No Boundaries: It's the Real You," sheds light on the idea of living your life lavishly on Second Life. You create your own avatar and you are free to splurge on yourself as you wouldn't in real life. You can buy land, houses and go on lavish vacations and do everything that you can't afford to do in real life. “Nor is that avatar bound by other real-life constraints. In the real world, we may not be invited to a party at the embassy, but our avatar will,” Dr. Spangenberg said. You can live your “dream” life on VR. The article, "The Virtual World Moves into the Classroom&

Blog About Twitter

Twitter discussions differ in many aspects when compared to BlackBoard or in-class discussions. First of all, Twitter discussions take place through tweets that are limited to 280 characters. With that being said, you are extremely limited so you must choose your wordings carefully. You can also use hashtags to see what others relevant to the same topic in hand said about it. Normally, Twitter discussions aren't usually used for classroom discussions. Twitter discussions revolve around what's new in the media and around celebrities or politics for example. There is no filter, so you are free to say or use whatever formal/informal language you would like. On the other hand, BlackBoard discussions and in-class discussions are used for educational purposes. What you say on BlackBoard is seen by your professor and classmates, so you must talk in respect to them and be formal and thoughtful. The same goes for in-class discussions as well. Unlike Twitter discussions, you are not limi

Social Networking Sites

Nowadays social media is the new trend. If you're not on Instagram, Facebook, or Snapchat, do you even exist? Do people even know you ?! In this blog, I will be exploring four different social media apps and compare my impressions of these sites.  Facebook is probably the most popular/used social networking site in the world. Users can write statues, share photos, tag as many friends as they want, share videos, like/comment, etc. One thing I noticed is that out of all the social media sites, people tend to use their "real name" on Facebook the most, compared to lets say Snapchat or Instagram. This is just my opinion because I have searched for many friends on Snapchat vs. Facebook, but I was only able to find some of them on Facebook using their actual first and last names, but not on Snapchat. I used to love Facebook back in the days because it was relevant and I kept up with my friends and what they were up to. I feel like the hype over Facebook died down when n

Social Networking

Social networking is the use of certain websites and applications to interact with other users or to find people with similar interests as you. In todays technologically advanced world, it is rare to not find anyone not on social media. We all use it to connect with friends or families or co workers. Jobs nowadays are also using social media to share ideas or to promote business. The internet has become a larger platform than ever, letting us do anything imaginable. Some of the benefits of social networking is instant access to information, staying connected, most are also free or very inexpensive, and are fun/easy to use. More and more celebrities will use it as a platform for their life and become more famous. Social networking is beneficial to everyone because of its ease of use and the freedom to connect for free.        Like everything else, social networking also has its "dark side." The most important one would be the issue of privacy. If you do want to keep a
